Wing And A Prayer

 Sweet bird of sunrise
 Brown hair and sad eyes
Cry not one tear for me
 And I’ll be home

 Everything I wanted
 Everything I hunger for
 You’re everything I needed
 You’re everything I’m praying for

 Wherever you go
 And wherever you are
I’ll be hitching my star to you

As the birds in the air
On a wing and a prayer
I will always be there for you

 I heard some friends say
This war won’t last a day
 You must be brave
 And I hope you’ll wait

 Everything I wanted
 Everything I hunger for
 You’re everything I needed
 You’re everything I’m praying for

 Wherever you go
 And wherever you are
I’ll be hitching my star to you

As the birds in the air
On a wing and a prayer
I will always be there for you

And the power is in your hands
And nothing in life is planned
There’ll be tears in the mist of a laughter
 And I promise
I’ll be with you ever after

 Wherever you go
 And wherever you are
I’ll be hitching my star to you

As the birds in the air
On a wing and a prayer
I will always be there for you

 Wherever you go
 And wherever you are
I will never be far from you

As the birds in the air
On a wing and a prayer
I will always be there for you
 (repeat & fade)

 Anmerkung von Robin Gibb:
Wing And A Prayer is a play on Sing Slowly Sisters,
a song I wrote in 1969 about World War I when
young British soldiers were made to feel guilty about
not being in uniform and dying for their country.
It was women who were used in posters and propaganda
to encourage the men to fight for their country.
This is a false sense of patriotism of the worst kind,
a Government deceit which is used in all wars.
Wing And A Prayer is a love song but also an anti-war song
that reaches out over decades, not specically for World War I.
